Acrobatic Gymnastics

Acrobatic Gymnastics (also known as "Acro") integrates the grace and beauty of dance, the balance and strength exhibited in gymnastics, with the magnificence of teamwork not shared with any other sport in the USA Gymnastics family.

Groups of two to four athletes reach new heights in gymnastics by performing tempo, flight, and balance skills, seemingly defying laws of physics and human movement. Acrobatic Gymnastics challenges the athletes' physical ability, while instilling in him or her the profound and lifelong values of trust and teamwork.

Entry Level/Recreational Acro A & B

ages 4 & up

Athletes perform beginning acrobatic skills, as well as learning Acro terminology in a fun group environment.

Intermediate Acro C & Pre-Team

by invitation only

Athletes perform intermediate level acrobatic skills with the opportunity to compete as a Level 5 group with our Competitive Team.

Competitive Acrobatic Gymnastics Team

by invitation only

This is CCG's competitive Acro team that travels throughout California competing from March until July. The team is made up of Level 6 - Level 9 groups. Benefits

• Provides an option for gymnasts who may excel at the floor exercise event and want to focus on just one event.
• No age limits - it's not unusual to find athletes in their twenties or even thirties!
• No height, weight, or body build limitations - The mature athlete can be a base, and a smaller athlete would be the top.
• Develop skills such as balance, tumbling and coordination. Teaches teamwork and builds life-long friendships.
• Performance of routines will help with their self-esteem and self-confidence!

History of Acrobatic Gymnastics

Acrobatic Gymnastics dates back to the time of ancient Greeks. Modern Acro began in the Soviet Union around the 1930s. Sports Acro came to the United Sates around the 1970s. USSAF, United States Sports Acrobatics Federation, was the first National Acro organization which was founded in 1975. The organization changed to just USSA, in the 1990s, then merged with USA Gymnastics in 2002. The United States was fist represented at the World Championships in Moscow in 1974. However, it wasn't until 2002, in Riesa, Germany, that the USA Team won its first Gold medal!
